The action of the picture takes place on the eve of the Second World War. A senior Soviet diplomat working in Germany was suddenly recalled to Moscow. On the train, he meets his only neighbor in the carriage - a beautiful young woman who is in the last months of her pregnancy. To pass the time on the road, she tells him her life.
